| The UV lamp inside the Ionmax Ionic Air Purifier with UV helps to kill a wide variety of airborne bacteria, mould and viruses that circulate into the unit. The specific energy found in the photons of the UV ultraviolet light – at a wavelength in the range of 2537 Angstroms – is just the right amount to physically destroy the DNA of microorganisms. In other words, the microorganisms have a specific sensitivity to this light and therefore suffer a damaging effect to their molecular bond. The DNA structures of these microorganisms are damaged and are not able to replicate. Viruses are especially susceptible to destruction by brief exposure to UV light.
